Lake Khanbulan, considered one of the pearls of Lankaran, captivates those who rest in its bosom with its fascinating nature. The lake is located in the village of the same name in Lankaran. Several small recreation centers currently operate around the lake, which is surrounded by forests. In the summer months, people from both the South and various regions of the republic come here in droves and experience the joy of being one of the spectators of this beauty. I would like to mention a little about the history of the lake's creation. Khanbulan was artificially created in 1970 for the purpose of irrigation. In 1976, a reservoir was put into operation in part of the lake.
With the commissioning of the reservoir, irrigation of 22 thousand hectares of land in the subtropical zone of Azerbaijan was ensured. A mountain-type water intake was built on the Basharuchay River to provide the reservoir with the necessary flow. The total water capacity of Khanbulan is 52 million m³, and its deepest point is 75 meters. The length of the lake is about 5 km, and its width is more than 2 km. There are several options for relaxing here. If your budget allows, you can eat at the restaurants created in the area and relax around the lake. It is also a special pleasure to sit on small benches overlooking the lake and drink tea. But for this you will have to spend 15-20 manats. The tea set consists of chocolate, jam and cookies. True, if we look back a little, drinking tea here was not so expensive. It seems that the recent wave of economic inflation and the increased interest of tourists in the lake have caused small businesses to raise prices.
