Turkey has long been a popular destination for European tourists as a cheap and quality holiday destination. However, recent high inflation and rising cost of living are having a negative impact on both local and foreign tourists. Many European countries, especially Germany, are canceling their trips due to rising prices and are turning to more affordable alternatives.
Condor Airlines, a German-based tourism airline, has canceled its flights to Antalya for the summer season of 2026. The company cited declining demand as the reason for this decision and emphasized that the main reason for the decline in demand is the high prices and cost of living in Turkey.
The growing economic difficulties in Turkey are affecting not only tourists but also foreigners living in the country. According to the TurkStat, more than 50,000 Russian citizens have left Turkey in the past year. The Balkan countries, which offer more favorable economic conditions, have become new destinations for foreigners.
Rising prices and the cost of living are driving up holiday costs, driving European tourists to more economically viable alternative countries.
A decline in the number of tourists visiting tourist centers such as Antalya and Alanya could lead to a decline in tourism revenues. Cancellations of reservations, especially during the summer season, further increase this risk.
