On January 31, representatives of the Main Department of Migration and Citizenship Registration of Uzbekistan and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan held an online meeting to discuss issues of mutual recognition of identity cards
During the meeting, it was stated that this will simplify the movement of citizens and expand cooperation in the field of migration policy.
"Travel convenience will be increased through the use of biometric ID cards, allowing citizens of both countries to cross the border without obtaining a foreign passport," the statement said.
It should be noted that previously, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed mutual recognition of identity cards of Central Asian countries.
It should be added that the system in question already exists between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. From September 1, 2023, citizens of the two countries will be able to use their identity cards to enter, exit, travel and stay in the territories of the two states.
It should be noted that the document on mutual visa exemption between Azerbaijan and Turkey has been in force since April 1, 2021. From that date, citizens of both countries can use their identity cards as a border crossing document.
